2012: Meet Woody - The latest antique vibrator to appear in our museum

This week a very special new vibrator went on display at MaXXX Black. It's made from Japanese timber, is hand-cranked, and just over 90 years old. Welcome 'Woody', the latest antique vibrator to be acquired for our Museum of Love & Lust at MaXXX Black Sydney.

'Woody' was one of the last commercial hand crank style vibrators to be produced in Japan. Made sometime around 1922 it was manufactured for the Practical Vibrator Company.

Woody is made from 11 inches of Japanese oak and features a brass crank, plate, weights and mechanics. The vibrating action is caused by rotation of the weights in the head.

There are only a handful of Woody's left today, and as far as we know this is the only one on display in Australia.

Come into MaXXX Black when you visit Sydney to see Woody and experience the Vintage Vibrations exhibition.

About our Museum

Inside MaXXX Black is the Museum of Love & Lust. It's a permanent exhibition open during store hours and is free of charge to visit. The first exhibition "History of the Vibrator" opened in February 2011 and ran 12 months. Early in 2012 we added new pieces to the collection and relaunched the exhibit as "Vintage Vibrations: 100 Years of Vibrator History". The exhibit is one of the few places in Australia to see the fascinating history of one of the modern worlds most enduring consumer and health products.
